I bought this workbook to supplement The Art of Electronics text book. If you are trying to learn electronics on your own, I believe this workbook will be necessary. The textbook is very good and very complete, but it is fast-paced and lacks the detail necessary to get a firm grasp of the fundamental concepts. This student manual/workbook gives worked out examples and labs to give those additional insights. Also, it is not afraid of disagreeing with the text on certain approaches to designing circuits. As an example, when the textbook covered differentiators I got the impression that the simple RC design was enough, but when the workbook discussed the same topic, it said something like, "Yeah that simple RC design would be fine if you want to murder the signal." Of course the text certainly addressed the concept of source loading, but not with the passion that the workbook emphasized it. Now, granted I have just begun, and am in no way qualified to make any of the previous statements, but still I did. I will also add that if you want to learn electronics, you bite the bullet and buy both the text and the workbook, but be careful of the "international" version. I have seen pictures of the bindings and think that if you buy it, you will be re-binding it soon. One more thing. Start by reading every word of every page on the website: "All About Circuits" at http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/ If all of that online book makes sense, then buy this workbook and the textbook.Read full review
This is the excellent students text to follow the College course taught using the 2nd Edition "The Art of Electronics". NOT for 3rd Edition.

This is the student manual that is intended to speak in more explanative language and examples, the concepts from the Second Edition of the "Art of Electronics" by Horowitz and Hill. In my honest opinion, being an electrical engineer, no book of contemporary or historical status can compare to the 'real-world', 'real-language' approach of this text and manual. If you buy the book, you must have the student manual and you must sit down with pencil and paper and work through things for the nuances and techniques of circuit design to reveal themselves to you. From experience, you may need to work through this text a couple of times to really glean all that you can from the terseness of some sections. I rate this the greatest book on learning electronics and circuit design....bar none!!
Good electronics book.
