    Old reliable

The premier brand of weather radio. I use all the time. I replaced my previous one after abot 8-9 years of use. It finally wore out.

  • Top critical review

    Its OK

This is an OK weather radio for the money. Not a lot of bells and whistles. Basic alert and monitoring functions. Which is all I need right now. I didnt have a bunch to spend. My old faithful Midland Weather radio that we've had for over 20 years finally wore out or gave up (maybe fell once too often). Since we live in a place where severe storms and tornadoes are possible, I refuse to be without a Midland Weather Radio. We have bought them for our parents and kids for their homes also. Nothing will come close in features or performance. And when payday comes, I will upgrade to another Midland.

  • Good feature-set, but has a reputation (confirmed by me) for being unreliable!

This is a fairly sophisticate product and allows you so be alerted only for specified counties (SAME Specific Area Message Encoding). About the only thing it cannot do is react only to specific types of emergencies. The user interface is just a bit complicated to learn, but overall not bad. Sadly this model has a known flaw where the radio stops working and instead of the weather radio station audio all you get is a single tone continuously. Apparently, reading reviews and info online, this can happen right out of the box from new-old stock, or can develop after a few years use. But is is apparently quite common, and it happened to me within a week of purchasing it. NOTE that once the problem occurs the unit will no longer switch on during an alert, so the user is oblivious to the fact ...

  • Stopped working

Only worked the first day and now I hear absolutely nothing on any of the channels and I have the weather switch turned on. It doesn't even turn on if I have just batteries in it. I can't get the radio set up because of this! Will not buy a used radio again. I was able to hear the weather man talking on it on the first day and now I can't even hear that anymore. I don't understand what the issue is and i'm pretty disappointed.
