I've bought two of these and they are absolutely amazing! They are very easy to use so a beginner could easily get the hang of it! I have used them for 2 animatronics, one of which won a science fair.

Pololu maestro
Nice little controller for a good price but needs some programmer skills to get everything out of it. Writing a script for it is not easy, too bad that there is not something like a online library to download scripts for different applications.

fantastic 6 channel controller
Easy to program with there free software, it writes the code for you, you just drag the sliders and hit save. I have used it as a servo controller and a digital ON / OFF controller. A great deal for the money !
