Small, Strorage box useless
I bought one each of these at BJ's for Christmas gifts for four of my grandchildren ages a late 2 year old, a 5,& 9 and 10 year old. The mineral and the the insect kits were outstanding. Unfortunately the dinosaur collection though is good in idea and assortment, was not appreciated by the parents as much. Each kit is a remarkable collection in a good plastic case The insect set was the highlight of the three. It was given to the two youngest. The insects are real insects encased in plastic cubes, a polymer that looks like an ice cube. The insects are large in size and found only in Asia I believe, but their relatives are here in the US.The cubes can be easily placed back in the box in any order. The nearly three year old loves the tiny magnifying glass that works but is a cheap sort. This ... Each mineral is in its own little section of the box. Some of the crystals were small.These were not as "fun" as the other two kits and I mainly got it for the nine year old who is home schooled. She didn't appreciate a "school" gift however.I have a little knowledge of minerals but would think parents and children with no such background would have difficulty identifying each one. Once the parent has done so, I would suggest to label the minerals with a permanent extra fine marker with a number corresponding to the instruction book and then have the child label the box it should go in. The instruction book could use the pronunciation in parenthesis of a couple of the minerals. The dinosaurs are a hit but with my expectations and the parent's not met. When purchased I believed each dinosaur would be easy to place back in its corresponding shaped cubicle and would be easy for them to be stored. Its not. Even when adults try to place them in the correct boxes they have to be turned exactly right or they don't fit. The box is not usable and the small dinosaurs continually get lost.
