ViaMichelin (X-930) Portable Handheld GPS Receiver
This basic ViaMichelin X-930 Portable Handheld GPS Receiver was good for the cheap price, but I haven't been able to find updated maps for it. It will get you where you are going, but may take longer if there are new roads that are not in the unit. Purchased on Feb 05, 2010 for only 46.90 which included shipping, made it a deal to good to pass up since I didn't own a GPS. Mechanically & electronically it works great and was easy for me to figure out without having to read the manual that I have in PDF format. I like that it's portable and I can take with me on the motorcycle or walking. Bottom line is that if you can afford a better GPS, I would highly recommend that you get a better one with updated maps since the maps are outdated in this model and there is no way to update them like the ... Using the ViaMichelin X-930
As for what I do not like about this product: This product has a user interface that takes some getting use to. More so than a Magellan, Garmin, or TomTom brands that I have used. The unit does not allow for misspelling of streets or locations and cannot run a search for names that are similar. At times, it can take to long to search the information stored on the memory chip. Positive/likes of the product: After you take some time to get use to it the product is extremely accurate in getting me to all my locations. This includes both in driving Car Mode and walking in Pedestrian mode. Sat synch up and rerouting for a missed turned is pretty fast. It has a rechargeable battery to let you take it with you and turn it on to add information before heading back to your car, not just ... Various warning tones can be set to alert you to POIs, and you can also set warnings of driving speeds on various types of roads. I've not had much experience with this type of GPS, I have one which works with my laptop, and is a 100 times better, This unit seems a bit limited, I have used it on my daily travels, back and forth to work, shopping etc, It (unlike the one in my laptop) only allows you to set one destination, with no minor stops on the way. It offers only 2 choices of trip planning fastest, and shortest. In either one the estimated trip time is not accurate. X-930 ViaMichelin Handheld GPS Receiver
I've had a TomTom before and this unit, for the money, is as good. The navigation in the menus are a little different but like any it takes a few times and then you remember the sequence to do different things. What I did not like was the AC and DC plug. It is identical to the Motorala plug and so I thought I could use my cell phone to charge car and wall charge to charge the GPS while on the road and trip. My first trip, the unit went dead because I didn't bring the "ViaMichelin" cords with me and found out that the "others like them" do not work. Beware, you must use their cords.I've had a TomTom before and this unit, for the money, is as good. Great GPS @ Great Price!
I have read many different reviews on this GPS Unit. (Many were not favorable) I decided to buy it regardless of the reviews because I got such a great price on it. I got the unit out of the box and it was very simple to figure out. The first time out I took several wrong turns on purpose to see how long and how well it recalculates. It is fast at recalculating and very accurate. I am in the service industry and always going to new addresses. I have used this product everyday since I received it and I have not had any problems with it. I am very happy with this product and highly recommend it.I have read many different reviews on this GPS Unit.
