For whatever reason I never added this Zeppelin album to my collection. The other day one of the songs came on Pandora while I worked in the kitchen. I knew I hadn’t heard it very much so I glanced at the title. Lo and behold I immediately began searching for the cd because I don’t have it. Ebay makes it easy to find anything and easier to buy it. I’m very happy that I have this album in my collection now, thanks to eBay!

Heavy Rock's benchmark - great tunes, great musicians, fiery performances, band's most cohesive album. Cons: They didn't like to name their 'influences'...etc. When THE YARDBIRDS slowly collapsed towards the end of the decade, guitar wizard Page was left alone with contractual obligations for some shows in Sweden and Norway to be fulfilled. Page, previously a session musician (worked with THE KINKS, Donovan etc) thus gathered session musician John Paul Jones (worked with THE ROLLING STONES, Donovan etc), his companion in many studio sessions. The seeds of their partnership were first sowed when they played the song Beck s Bolero in JEFF BECK GROUP s debut, 1968 s Truth, alongside drummer Keith Moon from THE WHO. The outcome was so shining the involved planned to form a new band on the future. Moon suggested the name LEAD ZEPPELIN, stating that such a bunch of madmen playing together onstage would fall down like a lead balloon . But the idea didn t come into fruition. JEFF BECK GROUP was hugely successful in 1968, as well as THE WHO. Thus Page and Jones decided to re-form THE YARDBIRDS, more than forming a new ensemble. Through Jones drummer John Bonham and singer Robert Plant (both from unknown THE BAND OF JOY) were invited to join the party. And the NEW YARDBIRDS were born! After this successful first tour, the band s explosive chemistry convinced everyone involved to perpetuate the joint efforts. This time they decided to form a new band. Recalling Moon s quote, Page and the guys decided to adopt the brand LED ZEPPELIN (they believed it sounded better than LEAD). Their 1969 s eponymous debut Led Zeppelin proved to be one of the most influential Rock albums ever. LED ZEPPELIN, a bunch of gifted musicians, embedded the loud and fast Rock N Roll of acts like THE CREAM and JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE with the ancient charm of classic Blues tunes from giants such as Willie Dixon and Albert King. In the process, they strongly flirted with Folk (recalling the session days of Page and Jones sidelining troubadour Donovan) and Indian rhythms (following THE BEATLES pioneer attempts on fusing Western and Eastern melodies and THE YARDBIRDS themselves, which employed Sitar-like soundings to great effects in many songs like Heart Full of Soul). The achievements of such an enterprise were astonishing. Innumerable bands tried to replicate the peculiar LED ZEPPELIN s chemistry. The weight and virtuosity of their sound and their legendary onstage performances (which intimidated the headlining acts they opened for, like IRON BUTTERFLY) created new standards for Rock N Roll bands. Even though critics hated their whole approach (so much it differed from, say, THE BEATLES),Read full review
