With its full motion video graphics (which are a bit grainy) and air combat gameplay, Midnight Raiders is similar to Tomcat Alley, but with a slower helicopter instead of a speedy F-14. Players take on the role of Joker, the point gunner in a chopper squadron who must rescue a scientist held captive in the Middle East. This consists of using a cursor to lock onto and then fire upon opposing tanks and helicopters, some of which are overly easy to destroy, while others are all but impossible, making for an uneven gaming experience. When the action hits the ground running, gameplay remains basically the same: guide the cursor and fire. The explosions and voices sound good, but players will grow weary of the pilot's seemingly constant nagging. One of the coolest things about this overall lackluster title is its use of actual military footage.
