I recently had my camera and all my gear stolen from me, and I couldn’t afford a new camera again. I did some research on older camera and a lot of photographers kept recommending Nikon D300 as a budget friendly good camera. So I bought this one on eBay, for less than $200, and it’s way way way better than my Nikon D3500! The features are great! You can adjust your kelvin which for my Nikon D3500 you could only pick shade, in the house, sunshine and things like that. You can do those with this camera however, you can also adjust the kelvin which makes a huge difference! I recommend this camera over the D3500.

The sensor is contrast-y, which means there's little need for post-processing. You can use AF-D lenses on it and it's a crop sensor, so add x 1.5 to full frame lenses. I'm very impressed by the picture quality. Make sure you get the right batteries and compact flash memory cards.

I am very happy with this camera. It is much more sophisticated than my D 80 that stopped working. there's so much more you can do with it. I downloaded the owner's manual.Once you read and understand the instructions it becomes easy.

Ken Rockwell describes it very nicely. A web search will easily find his review. 12 MP is enough for most purposes unless you need to crop. Takes great pictures and has excellent capabilities. One odd thing is the bettery door release. It is a little lever that is not right next to the door,so I had to read the manual to figure out howto change the battery. I never had to do that before. The camera I bought was in fantastic shape. Great deal for the price. I have lots of old Nikon glass, so that is another thing that makes this camera a bargain. Unlike the Nikon D3xxxx and D5xxxx cameras like the D3200 or D5200, this one can use the old glass. The new beginner and intermediate cameras only use the new G lenses. So for people who already have a lot of old glass, this camera is a much better idea than a D3100 or D5100 which have about the same resolution but cannot use the worderful old glass like the 80-200mm f/2.8 D lens, etc. which are marvelous. Of course, the oldest lenses do not have stabilization but you can put the new lenses on the D300 too, if you need that. You can print an 8x10 with resolution as good as the eye can discern.Read full review
