About this product

Product Information

WINNER OF THE 2015 PULITZER PRIZE FOR FICTION NATIONAL BOOK AWARD FINALIST NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER WINNER OF THE CARNEGIE MEDAL FOR FICTION A beautiful, stunningly ambitious novel about a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of World War II Open your eyes and see what you can with them before they close forever.' For Marie-Laure, blind since the age of six, the world is full of mazes. The miniature of a Paris neighbourhood, made by her father to teach her the way home. The microscopic layers within the invaluable diamond that her father guards in the Museum of Natural History. The walled city by the sea, where father and daughter take refuge when the Nazis invade Paris. And a future which draws her ever closer to Werner, a German orphan, destined to labour in the mines until a broken radio fills his life with possibility and brings him to the notice of the Hitler Youth. In this magnificent, deeply moving novel, the stories of Marie-Laure and Werner illuminate the ways, against all odds, people try to be good to one another.

I can't understand why Ebay are now limiting the options for rating the supplier to just "item description" when dispatch time and seller communication are also important. I imagine they do their best to keep sellers on their platform and limiting the ways that buyers can "make informed decisions" but I digress. All that aside, this was a great seller. Item received in great condition, well packaged and quick delivery. Will definitely use again.

Item exactly as described, fairly priced, and swiftly dispatched. I would happily recommend this seller. The book itself is 'classic' Sapolsky, packed with gems of interesting insight underpinned by a dense array of research and analysis/commentary. I am not a natural scientist and yet Sapolsky manages to distil a wide range of erudite learning into an engaging and comprehensible read.

I don't usually pick up fiction, but was encouraged by a friend to read this novel. The author has researched the setting of World War 2 and the German occupation of France very well - so well I felt the account to be an actual record. The account and background of Hitler Youth is completely correct - I can personally vouch for that! The truth is there in this book Well written - apart from the odd Americanism (off of being one irritation) but this is a niggle since generally the prose is taut though descriptive. Don't want to spoil the story = just pick it up and you will see the light.
