Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Hyperstone Heist is one of the best games created for the Sega Genesis console for several reasons. Although this game is based off of the TMNT 4: Turtles in Time game for the Super Nintendo, it has several changes that can make it a totally different, but still extremely fun game. You still choose to play as one of the four turtles, and the attack controls are similar, with a basic and strong attack, a jump, and directional pad movements. The basic goal is also the same, meaning ultimately your goal is to make it to Shredder and defeat him to get back what he stole. A couple differences include that Shredder has stolen the hyperstone instead of the Statue of Liberty, and unfortunately there are less levels in this game than there are in the SNES version. They make up for that by making each level a bit more challenging by adding several booby traps into each level that you must try to avoid while pummeling the foot soldiers and other enemies. You can also still play with two players, and that is a huge plus to many gamers. In the end this game will be just as much fun as the other version, and you'll want to play it again and again. If you love side-scrolling beat 'em up games, and if you love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, then this is a game for you. Cowabunga!!Read full review
TMNT Hyperstone Heist is the Sega Genesis' answer to the Super Nintendo's TMNT IV: Turtles in Time, and not surprisingly, it doesn't live up to its SNES counterpart. Given how good Turtles in Time is, Hyperstone Heist is still a classic beat em' up and a great find for Genesis collectors and fans of the TMNT franchise. The game mechanics are similar and the graphics are as well, but they seem more rigid and less smooth than Turtles in Time. The game is also much shorter, though Konami makes up for it by making the game a bit harder as well. All in all, this is a great game and a nice piece for any Genesis collection. It's a bit rare/pricey, but you might be lucky to find it in a lot. Either way, this should be in your collection.
The TMNT: Hyperstone Heist Reproduction Manual is sturdier, stronger, and made of better quality material than I had with the previous copy of the Instruction Manual for this particular Sega Genesis game. The bad, the printing isn't absolutely flawless and perfect but it's than I had before with the previous copy of the Instruction Manual for this particular video game.

The ability to dash while just pressing a button is a huge game changer from the other turtles games from the same era that make you double tap the d pad to dash. This game is a delite for speedrunning. Its so fun to slide across the stage kicking enemies back and forth. Excellent game. Much more difficult bosses then some of the other turtles games. The cartridge looks really perfect too. Good ebay seller. Very good value for the game too

When I was a child in the mid to late 80's, I used to love going to the arcade for one reason - This game! I remember pumping quarter after quarter into the arcade machine trying desperately to finish the game, and I don't know if I ever did. Years after that, sometime in the 90's, this became available for Sega Genesis, and was never released for any other system. The graphics were phenomenal for the time, but they were nothing compared to the graphics you found in the arcade. As time passed, I slowly forgot about this game, and other Ninja Turtle games followed on various systems. Turtles in Time (TMNT IV) was one of the biggest steps forward in this genre, and slowly but surely, everyone for about about the Hyperstone Heist. In fact, most of my friends that used to play TMNT games on Super Nintendo & Sega Genesis don't have any idea what the Hyperstone Heist is, that is, until I sat them down and powered up my Sega. Upon powering up the Sega, most of my friends knew exactly what the game was...the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game! This game was revolutionary for its time, and of all the Sega games that I have, its now easily one of the most played. The only complaint is that this game is a bit too easy once you are familiar with the combos and control scheme, but that doesn't make it less fun. When I was a child, around age 10, this game was hard! I'll admit, games have become much more difficult and intricate in the last 15 years, but if you are buying this game for a child, it might be a good challenge. Nevertheless, this game is undeniably fun, either as single player or as a multiplayer game. You can't go wrong with this title!Read full review
I thought that TMNT 4 for the Super NES was an original game, but as it turns out, this game came out first, and it's obvious that a lot of the material from TMNT 4 was pulled from this game. With that said, TMNT 4 is a great game, and so is this one. Great sound, great game play, and fun bosses and levels. However, this game chooses to have five long levels instead of 10 short ones, and it isn't a good thing. You get bored of the similar enemies and backgrounds a lot quicker that way, and there are a lot less bosses, too. And one of the levels is a level where you play all of the bosses again, so there are really only four original levels. No doubt, if all you have is a Genesis, you've definitely picked a winner if you buy this game. But turtles games definitely get a lot better than this if you've got an NES or a SNES. TMNT 3 for the NES is a lot more fun, and TMNT 4 for the Super NES is in almost every respect simply a more polished version of this game. Try them out, too!Read full review
Excellent gameplay! Purchased a reproduction game and this plays just like an original genesis cartridge. I would rank it in the top 3 of my favorite beat em up genesis games! Nice graphics, faster turtle movement then SNES just a fun great game! Thank you!

A great TMNT beat ' em for the Genesis. Not as good as Turtles in Time for SNES, but it has a lot going for it. There aren't as many levels, but the levels are super long; and while they pull from Time, there are some original environments. There is also an exclusive boss fight. I said that this wasn't a good value because the price of some older games is pretty high. I get that some view older games as collector's items, which is driving up the prices. I do like owning the cartridge, but some of them are crazy expensive.

Not a bad game it felt more like a special feature versions of turtles in time on SNES, but still overall a good game

I was a big fan of the Turtles Games back in the 90s, I played the Arcade multiplayer we all remember so fondly, the questionable port on the NES in Turtles 2 (lets not mention the first one) Turtles 3 Was a nice evolution over the first port and Turtles 4 is one of the top titles for the SNES. Oddly I never even knew there was a release on the sega Genesis. This title is at least as good as the SNES TMNT and perhaps even surpasses it in parts. Its got everything you want in a Turtles game and the graphics are really nice. The two color modes add some nice depth to the color scheme as well. A solid choice for any old school brawler or TMNT fan.
