LOVE IT!
I saw this movie when it first came out and sat through it twice. I loved the musical numbers even though I wish they were longer. Diane Lane was 19 in this movie! Richard Gere looked good here. They had good chemistry and made other films together . I LOVE ME SOME GREGORY HINES!! Rest In Peace love. Him and Lonette McGee were a couple I loved in this movie as well. All of Gregory and his brother’s Maurice dancers were the highlight as well as the other hoofers of that era. I’m just glad I can go back in time any time to watch this. James Remar, Nick Cage, Fred Gwynn all add to this film. James Remar can play a hood any day but in sex in the city he was good as well. The backdrop was gangster drama but I loved it got the music. A musician named Dixie Dwyer begins working with mobsters to advance his career but falls in love with the girlfriend of gangland kingpin Dutch Schultz. A dancer from Dixie's neighborhood, Sandman Williams and his brother are hired by the Cotton Club, a jazz club where most of the performers are black and the customers white. Owney Madden, a mobster, owns the club and runs it with his right-hand man, Frenchy. Dixie becomes a Hollywood film star, Thanks to Madden's help, and the mob, Dixie becomes a Hollywood film star, but angers Schultz. He also continues to see Schultz's girlfriend, Vera Cicero, whose new nightclub has been financed by the jealous gangster. In the meantime, Dixie's ambitious younger brother Vincent becomes a gangster in Schultz's mob ... Dutch Schultz is violently dealt with by Madden's men while Dixie and Sandman perform on the Cotton Club's stage.
