Fantastically interesting. Brenda Niall is without doubt the best biographer of Australian artistic, historical and literary figures. A must for anyone interested in Australian artists of the 20thC. Easy to read....facinating.

  • Absolutely brilliant!

If you ever wanted to know about the founding colonial history of Melbourne and follow through to almost this century through the descendants of one family - then this must be it. Reads like a novel and is a page turner especially the early colonisation of Melbourne and if you live around the areas where they lived, the names of roads and places will make sense. Fact that is better than fiction. Makes you yearn for the days of strong family ties, values and a sense of pride of place where you were born. Truly a great and enjoyable read - the history of Melbourne also unfolded.
