Et pourquoi pas un remake qui traiterait le sujet, les personnages et l'art du poker avec une ambition que l'on est en droit d'attendre, sans s'égarer dans le polar bas de gamme alors que le Jeu est consubstanciel au Film Noir. it's a little slow at time's but it's steve maqueen at his best. always cool, come ready for anything. great sporting cast, good story line, i think there could have been a little more action hear but it's about the big game at the end. so i think it follows suit. great ending one of the best i ever seen. the hero does'nt win this time, as a matter of fact it shocked him so bad that he was done in the end. great line too from robetson in the end after he turned the card over and schocked the maqueen and the room, i liked it.
If you want to see a movie about poker forget "Rounders", forget "Maverick" and see "The Cincinnati Kid". This movie is the heart and soul of poker without all the glitz and glamour, the chandeliers and marble floors, of todays poker world. Set in 1930's New Orleans "The Cincinnati Kid" vividly portrays the sleazy back alleys and smoke filled rooms that was once the milieu of the poker player. The cast is unrivaled. Steve McQueen as the "Kid" gives a gritty and down to earth performance. Edward G. Robinson is quite simply unparalleled as the "Man", "Lancey Howard". Joan Blondell also gives an award winning performance as "Lady Fingers". "The Cincinnati Kid" also has more than its share of eye candy with stars Ann-Margret and Tuesday Weld. Astute viewers might also note the openness these backroom poker games afforded its players. Anyone with a bankroll and the guts could play. Nevermind that it's the south of the 30's "The Cincinnati Kid" has a female professional poker player/dealer, in Joan Blondell and a black man, played by the talented Cab Calloway, sitting in the big game. As a side note, this movie was made in 1965 only five years after blacks were first allowed in Las Vegas casinos. In a world where we now treat poker players like Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, and Mike Matusow like superstars it's easy to forget the roots of the game. "The Cincinnati Kid" is to poker what "The Hustler" is to pool. In conclusion I would like to paraphrase Lancey Howard's final remark to the Kid, "You're good Rounders, but as long as The Cincinnati Kid is around you're still second best."Read full review

I'd forgotten what a fun movie this was, with an outstanding cast of characters. I hadn't seen it for some time until it came on cable a short time ago and I realized that I needed to add it to my collection of favorite movies on DVD.

I have just got into learning poker and wanted to see this old movie about poker playing and enjoyed this one as wells as "Rounders" which was another dvd I recently got thru eBay. Also since they were older movies I wanted them for a low price since I do not normally purchase dvd's. I was able to do this on eBay. Still looking for some other poker movies if anybody knows where there are some!! Thanks, Garygfon 5/15/10
