Since the 1970s, archaeologists have made great strides in recovering the lost world of the Old Testament. Experts understanding of ancient Israel and its neighbours, and Bible tales, have been changed by these discoveries. This book looks at how the Bible came into existence. The authors assert that Abraham, Isaac and jacob never existed, David and Soloman were merely Chieftans and not kings and the Exodus never happened. They claim, through archaeological evidence, that the Bible was created by the people from the southern nation of Judah, in a last ditch attempt to keep their faith alive.

    The bible unearthed

    Very good book. Gave the stories from the bible and then looked at the same time periods according to archeology. Showed how the bible was not always accurate to the evidence.

    Interesting...but different...

    Finkelstein and Silberman have both been featured on a number of History Channel and PBS documentaries...not because they are pro-bible or pro-Israel, but rather, because of the opposite. They beieve in a minimalist theory of the history of Israel. That is, there was no great and unified kingdom under Davis and Soloman. Rather just local chieftens with good storytellers and scribes. Interesting, but wrong. Archaeology is proving that there was a great united kingdom. Even the authors admit to the historicity of the existence of Israel.
