Although this is an older model it has a lot to offer. It has a great sensor and compact design. When used with Magic Lantern and C mount manual lenses it makes a very compact cinamatic camera. Thus far I'm really enjoying all the benefits of larger dslrs in this compact body even w/o a flip up screen. I'm more likely to bring this camera a long w me causally than my bigger camera. The image quality is great too in pictures and video.

This is an excellent camera, especially if you know what your doing. With the 22mm lens it is tack sharp. Mine has the updated firmware 2.0.2 and focusing is not that bad. I found the touch screen focus and shoot mode to be very useful. Images are clean up to ISO 3200 and not to bad at ISO 6400 and with a 2.0 lens you don't have to be afraid of the dark. I use this camera in manual or aperture priority and only shoot RAW so I cant speak to the other modes like Auto. The touch screen is very responsive and using the wheel on the back to make quick changes in shutter speed etc. is very fast and easy. Unlike my 6D your not going to get shallow DOP with this camera but in low light you can stop down the 22mm to 2.o and still get a crowd of people in focus, that can be a good thing. The video looks just like the video from my 6D, it even has mic input, so no more wind noise with a dead cat mic. It also worked great with my EF glass with the adapter. It's going to be nice not to have lug my full frame around except in the more challenging situations. The 18-55 is pretty good but not like the 22. If image quality is important to you, and you don't need the speed of a good DSLR, you can't beat this camera for the price or compactness.Read full review
One of the better starting platforms I've used. The price is great and the lenses for the camera are excellent. I use this camera more than most my others and it because of the size and the available kit. One of my favorite run and guns. I highly recommend the Eos m.

The camera has a user friendly program, even for a first-time mirrorless user. The image quality is clear with vibrant colors. The lens kit allows you to have fun with a variety of photos. Lots of fun.

The Canon EOS-M has been a much-maligned little camera when it was first released. I believe it is the result of 2 different factors: - The original firmware resulted in poor autofocus performance (now pretty-much fixed with the current firmware). - The camera was quite expensive ($799) when first released. Current prices have settled down to $320~$360, which is a STEAL considering that this camera is essentially a cut-down Rebel T4i sans the optical viewfinder and flash (a pocketable $65 accessory which is equivalent to the pop-up flash on the Rebels). It is considerably smaller and lighter than a Rebel T4i, all the while capable of shooting the same quality pictures and video as a T4i. It is quite a bit easier to carry as a walking-around camera than the T4i. Once used to the touchscreen, I have found it to be easier to access most functions faster than the Rebel's buttons and menu setup. The only exception is ISO and exposure comp. Some folk may miss all the scene modes available on the Rebel's main dial, but I don't. There are a few drawbacks: - This camera uses EF-M (M for mirror less) lenses of which exactly 3 are available: The 18-55mm kit lens, a 22mm pancake lens, and a 11-22mm zoom. There is an adapter that will allow the entire EF and EF-S series lenses to be used with this camera, but I wonder if that setup will be too bulky. Hopefully there will be other EF-M lenses in the future. - There is no provision for a wrist strap for this camera. It is only set up for around-the-neck straps. - The small battery doesn't have a particularly long life. Be sure to carry a spare or 2 in your pocket if you intend to shoot all day. The low price of this camera makes the drawbacks livable though.Read full review
As long as you get the latest firmware, the original EOS M is an excellent mirrorless option. Nice build, good looks, and the same APS-C sensor as the DSLR counterparts. Paired with an adapter I use it as a backup to my Rebel SL1. Love this camera

WOW, takes getting used to after using several EOS dslrs. It is different and takes a bit of getting used to but don;'t get me wrong.... its a great camera. It has many advantages over the dslr's and I look forward to moving up to a more advanced model after learning the "ins & outs" of this model.

Pros: Outstanding image quality. Compact size (with the 22mm lens). Responsive touch screen. Reasonable price. Cons: Auto focus is a bit slow (even after the firmware update). Auto focus is kind of sluggish when shooting video indoors. No viewfinder. No pop-up integrated flash. Despite the slow AF and the lack of viewfinder and flash, I'm very happy with this camera. It takes nice, clean, and sharp pictures. The image quality is very close to dslr.
This camera takes great pictures. It is compact light weight and the value is wonderful.I am very satisfied with the Canon EOS M
