About this product

Product Information

A fascinating insight into the personality, career and work of one of the world's most collectable illustrators. In this fascinating book, art historian James Hamilton examines the work and life of the illustrator Arthur Rackham. Rackham's illustrations for works suchas Rip Van Winkle, Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, Alice in Wonderland and A Midsummer Night's Dream have attained the classic status of the writings themselves - indeed, in some cases - they have become synonymous with them. Rackham himself, however, has previously remained a shadowy figure. As well as featuring exquisite illustrations and sketches, extracts from Rackham's correspondence and insightful commentary from James Hamilton shed new light on this much collected illustrator.

I appreciate getting the book, though someone packing the item wasnโ€™t careful and 6 pages had been folded, itโ€™s good to practice to make near more perfect. I appreciate it having arrived, thank you.

I received the book in a paper envelope and unfortunately it was affected by weather becoming wet and damaged. I contacted the seller and explained the circumstances. I was offered two options, 1) return the book for a full refund (seemed wasteful, unable to resell the book, incurs a cost for postage) or 2) receive a partial refund of $5.87 ($25.85 purchase price). I politely declined the offer of an arbitrary partial refund, and suggested that a paper book be posted inside a thin plastic sleeve

  • Re-awaken your childhood memories

Fabulous, heavy, hard backed book absolutely crammed with pictures. There is lots of information about Mr Rackham's life and art. Lots of little nuggets that bring him to life. I remember seeing Mr Rackham's art in books that I loved as a child. He has a distinct style that is immediately recognisable. Back then I didn't know who drew the pictures that made so much impact on me. Those trees with faces, the ethereal faeries, the monsters all drawn in pen and ink and delicately coloured with watercolours all so beautiful and sometimes very scary. Many years later I saw one of his pictures in my local art gallery and I was immediately a child again. How could I not buy this? I am so glad I did and if you are into fairies and goblins and giants etc, you won't regret buying it either.
