Synopsis
Pastor John Rogers assembled in 1537 a volume that contained, for the first time as part of a complete Bible, all of William Tyndale's translation work, the 1534 New Testament, the Pentateuch, and the nine historical books, ending with 2 Chronicles. Where there were gaps in Tyndale's work, Rogers used that of Miles Coverdale (1535). Archbishop Thomas Cranmer saw to it that the Matthew's Bible was shown to King Henry VIII, who then licensed the complete Bible in English. Thomas Cromwell, Henry's Viceregent for church affairs, subsequently encouraged bishops to order copies of the Matthew's Bible for their churches. Such official sanction sparked tremendous demand for the book. Features: Facsimile of an excellent copy of the 1537 Matthew's Bible Features clear, legible type throughout (marginal commentary is in smaller type) Authoritative new preface Great for Bible collectors and anyone interested in the history of the English Bible, Pastor John Rogers assembled in 1537 a volume that contained, for the first time as part of a complete Bible, all of William Tyndale's translation work, the 1534 New Testament, the Pentateuch, and the nine historical books, ending with 2 Chronicles. Nice Home Interiors White Wall Shelf with gold trim. Item as described. Seller shipped promptly but the package got hung up in the USPS system for awhile before it was finally delivered. However, it was worth the wait. Great communication with seller and wouldn't hesitate to purchase again. Thank you.

  • A Bible That Truly Take the Reader Back in Time

This is truly a remarkable peace of Biblical English history printed as a handsome book. The Matthews Bible take the reader back in time... even before the famed King James Version of 1611 to a time when no verse numbers were applied to the text... only chapter divisions. But this doesn't make it less enjoyable to read. While some of the old English text definitely takes some getting used to, it can be picked up on quickly. This Bible also contains illustrations throughout going as far a showing the items of the Tabernacle, temple and so forth. If you're looking for an accurate facsimile of an early English Bible, you can't go wrong with this one!

This is a great book, old english and original spelling. It is cool to set it side by side with new version and compare. Nice binding also.

  • Eye opening

Myself being brought up catholic, and told many things contrary, to realize the extent these men went to bringing about the Word of God into our own language is simply amazing. We all need to see this dedicated effort and courage which had such an affect on western culture.
