Excellent, a real multipurpose lens!
I didn't know I needed this lens until I actually took it out shooting. Fast, Sharp, Great Reach, but very surprisingly very close focusing as well. The combination of close focusing and image detail it captures and it can be a substitute for my 105mm f2.8d Micro (macro) lens. Close focusing means I can fill the frame with flowers, pets, headshots, and f4 blurs out the background nicely isolating my subjects well. I haven't run across any barrel distortion (unlike w/my zooms) and it's just a pleasure to shoot with. I am a big guy and this is a heavy lens and when I took it for a 3 mile nature hike I definitely felt the weight! However when I got home, rested for a bit, I lost myself when I imported the images and spent a very enjoyable evening editing.I didn't know I needed this lens until I actually took it out shooting. Great for wildlife at distance
This lens has replaced my 200-500 as my go to wildlife lens. The pictures are sharp compared to the zooms when birds are a long way away and the auto focus is a lot faster and more accurate for the moving subjects. I use it on a D500.
