About this product

Product Information

In a candle-lit Victorian brothel, Oscar Wilde sips champagne as pretty prostitutes enact his latest play, "Salome." As Salome performs her Dance of the Seven Veils in exchange for the ruin of John the Baptist, life begins to imitate art and the story becomes a mirror of the life of its author.

  • Quirky but Brilliant

Not well accepted at its release, this has the earmarkings of becoming a cult classic! iF you know Ken Russell's work, you know his treatment of Salome will be outrageous. But what makes this film is the incredible presence of the ethereal, nymph like young woman who plays Salome entirely against type. My eyes (and ears) are totally fascinated with her whenever she is on screen. The Herod is hilarious, and Glenda Jackson's role as the Queen is riveting and spot on.

Superior Quality from an old platform. Worked on my Hitatchi VCR Just Fine, and it's just like the free download & go version on my Tablet. Thanks to the Individual from California for keeping it out of the heat. This was & Is a fun Movie. Like looking at 2 plays at once.
