I believe it will function well for many years.
The vaccum would only reach 18. A customer should be given why this could happen. In my situation, I used bags that were sealed by another manufacturer. This thing is really well build and works wonderfully. You can adjust seal time and vacuum time. Roll storage and cutter are very convenient. The acrylic cover is very handy to see what's going on with the seal station.
