Card was in sleeve and top loader, then packed in a couple hard case, put into a padded envelope, then put into a 11.25 x 8.75 x 6 flat rate box. Total shipping cost was about $20 and I definitely believe the seller spent it. Right now I'm on the phone with ebay because a card that passed ebay's authentication arrived at the buyer with damage it did not have, or it would not have passed authentication. Ebay's standard packaging, which you describe, was not sufficient to prevent damage. So I'm happy to err on the more protected side of the packaging question. And thank you again!
