first time I ordered this item it did not work, even though the mobo looked exactly like my old one, it fit into the bottom base perfectly, all input and out put ports lined up, all cable connections were in correct location, but powered up for a minute and then never came back on. come to find out that the mobo advertised wasnt' the one sent. so sent back, the next one matched the part number on ebay as well as the part number on my old board. Once you get a good one, use the copper shim and you will be good.
The first motherboard was defective with a common issue this series of M/B's possess. However after receiving the second one my problem was resolved. This initial issue with the laptop was, it would immediately power off 2 seconds after pressing the power button. The issue with these motherboards is that the video chip overheats and damages the solder connection between the motherboard and the video chip. The first replacement board I received exhibited a somewhat different condition, in that it would cycle on and them off every 2 seconds until you removed all power, battery and power brick. I did receive and upgraded motherboard kit in that it had a copper shim that is installed with heat sink compound between the video chip and the main laptop heat sink. It's a great replacement motherboard for DV6700. Requires firmware updates.
This motherboard replaced my defective one. My defective motherboard was a DV6700 and the replacement was DV6500. There were some conflicts with some device drivers between my wireless NIC and sound card. I flashed the BIOS to the latest version for this motherboard and also researched some knowledge base resolutions to remove some registry keys and refreshing the cache and the device driver issues were fixed. I have windows Vista Premium on this system. It been running great.This motherboard replaced my defective one. My defective motherboard was a DV6700 and the replacement was DV6500. There were some conflicts with some device drivers between my wireless NIC and sound card. I flashed the BIOS to the latest version for this motherboard and also researched some knowledge base resolutions to remove some registry keys and refreshing the cache and the device driver issues were fixed. Great replacement for this hard to find exact HP Motherboard (MB) Part Number (PN)
This MB worked perfectly when I installed it. As the description states make sure that the HP Spare PN you are replacing matches exactly with this PN. Also, by removal & replacement of suspect attached components (CD DVD drive, WiFi daughter board, etc.) I had confirmed that the function/component problems I was having with my laptop were isolated to controllers or parts on the MB. While my laptop didn't suffer from video problems it is well documented that the dv6000 and similar series HP Laptop MB had lots of problems in this area. The description states that it has a 2nd generation video chip (which appears to be the case since it differed from the chip on my original MB). The newer video chip is supposed to provide better reliability which is enhanced by the copper shim and heat ... This MB worked perfectly when I installed it. OEM - exactly perfect and arrived early!!
This HP motherboard revived a dying Laptop that would not stay powered on. This item was inexpensive and was exactly what was needed. Swapped fan, heat-sink and CPU and all is well!
