The Intel Core 2 Extreme X9100 is the fastest dual-core CPU of the Core 2 series for laptops. As all Core 2 Extreme CPUs it offers an unlocked multiplicator and is therefore easy to overclock (usually in the BIOS). The X9100 was later substituted by the Core 2 Duo T9900 with the same clock rate but a cheaper price tag. The T9900 offers a better TDP of 35 Watt but has a fixed multiplicator (only drawback). Futhermore, the T9900 offers some newer features as Turbo Boost and C1E state. Due to the high clock rate of 3 GHz, the Core 2 Extreme X9100 offers enough performance for all games and applications in 2009 and possibly also 2010. In most applications (escpecially most games), it is faster than the low clocked Core 2 Quad CPUs (like Q9000, QX9300). Modern Core i7 CPUs with high Turbo frequencies are the only CPUs that are faster than the X9100 on average. The X9100 uses a Penryn core that features 2 integer units, 1 floating point unit, 1 load unit, and 1 store unit in a 14-stages long pipeline. Due to the Wide Dynamic Execution Technology, the core is able to simultaneously execute up to four instructions. The integrated Enhanced Speedstep is able to downclock the core dynamically as low as 800 MHz to save power (in idle mode). The Core 2 Duo X9100 can be used in a Socket P socket with 479 pinsRead full review
This is the fastest, baddest and best dual core processor for your upgradeable PM45 Intel chispet based laptop. You have got to consider your cooling before installing. I put it in my P7805U FX Gateway laptop. I polished the copper insert in the heat sink to ultra high shine and used Antec Formula 5 for the grease. It still runs warm, but, is completely worth it. Install with a SSD primary, upgrade to a 7200 rpm 500 gig Hitachi secondary, and get ready to fly thru everything. Games really good. Does Ableton music production well. Makes all my friends cry and whine about their junk systems.
Defenetaly, the Core 2 Extreme X9100 and Core 2 Duo T9900 are 2 fastest Dual-Core (Core 2 technology from Intel) for laptop. The Default Clock (3,06ghz) is enough for me to play all games at least in the next 2 years in high detail. I have my ASUS G51VX-RX05 with nVIDIA GTX 260M on it. Now i have X9100 installed on and i feel comfortable with it. I have no problem when playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty Black Ops ( a little bit laggy/low fps because of Treyard), Medal of Honor... Convert Video? Play Video HD? ... No Problem! But one thing i have to notice. It is the power consumption of this CPU. Normally, my ASUS G51VX can play a HD video in about 2 hrs with the def CPU (Core 2 Duo P7350 2.00ghz) . But when i do the samething with X9100 installed, the battery will survive in 1h40mins and that is way low... You might need to undervolt the CPU to save the battery. = for advanced user only. If you don't know how to do it, please buy a "more-cells" battery.Read full review
