  • mixed feelings

This was my first Amy Tan book. I bought it because it was inexpensive and the next book in my book club. If I didn't feel obligated to finish this book I would have quite before page 20. The begining was VERY slow...VERY wordy. It took me two weeks to read the first 70 pages. Once I got past all the character development and into the 'thick' of the book I finished it in three days. I was interested and felt compelled to see what would happen next. Unfortunately the ending was also disappointing. I was ready for something great but got was a character update instead.

  • Saving Fish From Drowning

I bought this book, luckily not full price, because Glamour magazine gave it good reviews. After reading it I'm wondering who they have doing their reading selection. The book does not have a good story line you can follow. The author falls off the path of the plot and goes on rambling for more than a few pages on a constant basis. Which then leaves you wondering where you left off at. The book then ends all of a sudden almost like it was just thrown in there because she didn't know the proper way to wrap up a story. I would suggest to anyone who likes to read not to waste your money. The author had a good plot, only if someone has had wrote it would it have been worth two evenings reading through it.

  • Another winner from Amy Tan

I love yet another book of Amy Tan's! This book is another mystical, fast moving book that keeps you interested throughout your reading. As with Tan's other novels, I found myself thinking about the characters when I wasn't reading the book and sneaking in any time I could to read a few more pages. I read this book in two days! I highly recommend it for anyone, especially any other Amy Tan fans.

  • Something different from Amy Tan

At first, the pace of the book seemed to be quite slow and it took me a while to develop any attachment to the characters. There were so many characters and so many relationships to look at. I think I was accustomed to her other books where the main focus was on the mother-daughter relationship. After a while I did find myself imagining the jungles and tropical locales. And I found that I did care about what happened to these characters. An enjoyable read.

  • Great Book!

Amy Tan has once again manageed to bring the reader into another culture. the characters are believable to the point where you feel their struggle personally. I wiould highly recommend this book "Saving Fish From Drowning".
