I bought this lens to use on my Sony NEX 5N, as a Macro, and a long portrait lens... mostly for filming interviews. Sony introduced the NEX series a while ago, but have been very slow in coming up with lenses. The stock 18-55 is just OK, the 16mm pancake truly horrible, and the 30mmm macro... what were they thinking? The 90mm Tamron is a very sharp lens, but BE CAREFUL... only the Pentax version still retains the manual aperture ring! This is not clear from the stock photos many sellers use on Ebay. If you wish to use this lens in manual mode, via an adapter on a Sony NEX, a Micro 4/3, etc. only the Pentax version is still suitable. I use the lens manually, so can't comment on any of its' auto features, but it's great as a manual lens, and suitable for a full-sized sensor. Sharpness, vignetting, bokeh and low distortion are all GREAT from f4 to f11 (but also pretty good wide open). Chromatic aberration is about average. The lens is smaller and lighter than other comparable macro lenses, though it still looks huge on the tiny NEX body. At below $400 it's relatively good value... not so relevant in my case, since it's the ONLY ONE with a manual aperture ring. Conclusion - the Tamron 90 is a great all-round manual macro lens for use on cameras like the Sony NEX which don't yet have a suitable native product on offer.Read full review
I picked this lens (based on good reviews) for my teenage son, because he's a keen macro photographer. Having tested it out, I was very surprised at the clarity and closeness you can get with this lens. He'll get better images than me I guess, so based on the quality from tinkering around, I would say this is definitely a worthwhile purchase which doesn't break the bank.

Great lens if bought used! Fast with quality macro, sharp image, full frame coverage, plus manual/auto shutter speed switch, but it's a cheap plastic, no water-proofing and a screwdriver auto-focus. I wouldn't pay full retail price for it, but I don't regret buying it used and enjoy using the lens!

Lens is ok, haven’t really tested it properly. Images are sharp, lens does not feel substantial so can’t comment on its longevity at this stage. Seems expensive and definitely a plastic feel with it.

Superb results with lens. Not image stabilised but great nevertheless.
