I had heard about this series for quite some time before purchasing it at a very fair price. My expectations were exceeded in every way. The series deals with the natural world in six segments, including Islands, Jungles, Deserts, Grasslands, Mountains and Cities. The flora and fauna in each region are photographed with a degree of clarity that is astounding. I have many 4K discs, and none of them even approaches this presentation in terms of resolution and the effective use of high dynamic range. As noted in Blu-Ray.com, for videophiles, this is the ultimate demonstration disc for showcasing 4K and HDR. Add to that the engaging and informative narration of Mr. Attenborough, and it is simply unbeatable. My only reservation was after six hours, the musical score tends to be a bit repetitive and episodic- not akin to the best of John Williams or Erich Wolfgang Korngold- a vey minor quibble, for sure. Don’t hesitate to consider buying this disc if you have an interest in nature and want the best possible source material to validate the effectiveness of 4K and HDR technology. Read full review

I have Planet Earth, the first on Blu-ray. Of course, this release "II" is similar. Haven't watched the first in a while, but I sense no difference in the approach, and the narrator is the same. I like English accents! I do have an aesthetic allergy to this type of documentary treatment, and I have to suspend that to fully appreciate these releases. The thing that bothers me the most is the thought that some of the sound I'm hearing is very likely generated in a studio by sound effects people charged with adding what's missing in terms of auditory information. For instance, if a cheetah pounces and the footage was created using long telephoto lenses, how likely is it that they had some means to capture the sound? I do sometimes bristle at the thought that they are faking some of this. How accurate the information is other than that? I can't say. I'm no expert. However, there's no doubt that the exposure to fauna and flora provided here is wonderful. I'll aware 5 stars!!!!! I have 4K displays now, and I had no 4K content, so decided to find something on disk to try out my systems. This popped out as a likely best choice. I'm not disappointed. I'm about 1/2 way through. There's about 5 hours total, and I think that doesn't count the 3rd supplemental disk, which is not 4K, but is blu-ray. Haven't looked into that yet. Read full review

We enjoyed David Attenboroughs narration of the BBC documentary on the planet earth. So far we've seen the islands, the mountains and the jungles and there's more to come when I watch the rest of this... we're taking a break now but I just had to crow about how good it is. I didn't see the original Planet Earth but I think now I'll have to get it. Plane Earth II Probably looks great in Blu Ray and DVD but if you've got the 4K UHD equipment, this is definintely the one to watch!

Watching this CD on high end OLED, 4K TV makes this CD come alive. Well worth the purchase, even if you've seen the original. The accent of the English speaker takes a bit of getting used to. But, after awhile, you don't seem to notice it.
