Genuine beats generic regardless of cost
I tried an alternative brand which only lasted 2 months. Upon buying the genuine brand I could immediately tell the qulaity difference in both the rubber and teeth. The tread was much thicker, the teeth more prominent. As such the pool cleaner worked straight off, climbing the walls and cleaning all of the pool. The non-genuine brand tyre, whilst 1/3rd of the price worked OK for a little while but soon stopped climbing the walls which meant more time trying to figure out what was wrong - thinking it was anything but the tyres, having just replaced them So - the reason for this long reveiw is to save anyone else tossing up between buying generic over genuine in this instance First picture is of the generic after 2m of use. Replacing old slipping tracks really improved cleaner performance
It's a bit expensive for two pieces of molded rubber. However, the cheaper alternative was a harder rubber compound from a country well-known for cheaper alternatives that may or may not work as well - with tracks being harder to flex it certainly would have placed more load on the drivetrain leading to earlier wear. The OEM tracks had worn nearly smooth and had stretched - they would sometimes come off the drive wheels when negotiating corners. Replacing the tracks with the genuine replacement part was thus a no-brainer for me. I was actually quite surprised that the performance of the cleaner was much better too with a lot more area covered during pump run time - the old tracks were obviously slipping a lot.It's a bit expensive for two pieces of molded rubber. After buying a second hand mx8 a few year ago, the guy said the tyres will need changing soon. I finally got some and they fit perfectly, now the mx8 races along the pool floor and sides better than ever.. Well worth doing..
