Synopsis
From the author of the bestselling biographies of Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein, this is the exclusive, New York Times bestselling biography of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years--as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues--Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing. At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, and when societies around the world are trying to build digital-age economies, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering. Although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published. He put nothing off-limits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. And Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against. His friends, foes, and colleagues provide an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted. Driven by demons, Jobs could drive those around him to fury and despair. But his personality and products were interrelated, just as Apple's hardware and software tended to be, as if part of an integrated system. His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values., Walter Isaacson's "enthralling" ( The New Yorker ) worldwide bestselling biography of Apple cofounder Steve Jobs. Great Classic Biography

I purchased this book to replace one that was lost in a flood-so I knew its value before I purchased it. Though used, it is in very good condition. This book by world renowned Apple computer founder who also created Pixar! It is an excellent biography of an American computer inventor and prefecter. Sadly he was lost to us too soon. Author/editor did a remarkable of painting a word picture of a very complicated and brilliant person.

    • A book to learn from and a person which should not be imitated: Jobs.

As a long time Apple User (Mac Book Pro; iMac, Ipod touch) I admired the man behind all this and was quite touched when I knew that he had died so young. I wanted to know more about this brilliant designer and I purchased this biography. which is quite objective and does not try to hide the defects of this great man. Great man, but lousy human being: Arrogant, insulting, destroyer of characters, cruel, intolerant, bad father...and a long etcetera of bad qualities. A great book, which makes you think about what is really important in life. I would not like to be like Mr. Jobs. I prefer not to be so rich, so famous, the creator of so many wonderful projects if I have to be like he was, a person who did not care about others and who definetly was NOT a philantropist like Bill Gates, his ...

    • Review will prove that my findings are useless.

So far so good! You can be assured no spoiler alerts are needed. LOL. Actually, so far it gives an interesting peek into the things and people that shaped who Steve Jobs was. I'm only a couple chapters in but it will take me some time to finish hence the premature review. If you are a stickler for paper and binding quality this book delivers albeit a bit short on the binding quality. A heavier weight would have been a nice touch but alas is of no consequence. It feels good in the hand and the glossy paper stock resists my clammy hands whilst holding the book in the hot SoCal sun. Understand the stars given is for Intro - Chaper 3. LOL

    • Excellent book on a fascinating life

I haven't read it yet, got it for my 15 year old son for Xmas. However, I am blown away by everything he has told me, definitely want to read it. Saw the author interviewed on TV, I think he did an amazing job in a challenging situation with a very private subject. If Steve's life story were a movie plot, we'd call it implausible but it really happened. He's an amazingly accomplished guy but also far from perfect or saintly. Lots of lessons for all of us to take to our own lives.

    • Fascinating Personality--Genius Personified

I gave this book as a Christmas gift to my son who expressed a great interest in acquiring it. However, before wrapping it up, I did read it myself. It was an "excellent take" on Steve Jobs and an extremely well written book. Hats off to the author! He was a fascination as an individual personality and had a genius of a mind. Perhaps he will go down along with Einstine. Only time will tell. It's an excellent read and I highly recommend it.
