About this product

Product Information

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) has helped thousands of people worldwide who suffer from the debilitating effects of intestinal disease such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, celiac disease, cystic fibrosis of the pancreas, and other forms of chronic diarrhea. The book explains the science behind the disease process and how the SCD offers a healthy, balanced, and safe approach to stop disease progression and help the body to heal. Referred to in the book as the "Autism Connection," the author explains how the same bacterial overgrowth present in those suffering from intestinal disease occurs in the gut of many autistic children. Through evidence and testimonials, the book outlines the ability of the SCD to treat many of the behavioral symptoms experienced by those with autism. The book includes tools, resources, and gourmet recipes to support individuals in starting the SCD and their journey to health.

    A diet that works !!!!!

A great book for anyone that has intestinal health issues. The diet has helped my son tremendously with his IBD issue as he is no longer is on any meds. The diet in this book has made all the difference in his current health. It takes time and discipline to follow the diet but it's worth it for a lifetime of good health.

  • Immediate Relief Within 200 Page Easy Read!!

After doing nearly two years of research on my Fiancé's 'condition', I became convinced he had Crohns Disease. He had been hospitalized early last year for a fistula and released, without a diagnosis or any direction as to preventing another. I received instructions as to his dressing changes, but I was concerned about how to avoid another hospital stay. I found information online that described Crohns and the various drug and surgery treatments, all stating there was not a 'cure' for this disease. -Until I came across this book! This book outlines Crohns, Autism, neuro issues, all in a very easy to read, without being condescending way. The best part is after you understand the origin of each issue, you are given a step by step method of CURING it! From the first day I rec'd the book, I ...

  • Very pleased with Breaking the Vicious Cycle

My husband became very ill this year and doctors ran dozens of tests but simply labeled him Irritable Bowel Syndrom. Which is what doctors label anything they can't figure out. He lost 40 lbs. in 2 months. Nothing he ate stayed in his body very long. I did research and found out about this diet. We were concerned it would be a huge adjustment and he was not looking forward to it. However, we found it to be an easy transition and my outlook on food shopping has completely reversed from what it used to be. We both enjoy the food and he has gotten better. We have decided to make this a lifestyle change. I think once you have the knowledge about all the additives in most foods we consume you will decide to stick with this.

  • Breaking the Vicious Cycle

This is an excellent, easy to read and easy to understand book. Written by a woman who worked closely with Dr. Haas and devoted her life to making this information possible to anyone who wants to read it. It clarifies some of the minconceptions and misinformation that's being provided, even by the medical community about CELIAC disease and other intestinal disorders. But most of all, it provides hope for true healing. The only shortcoming seems to me to be the lack of emphasis or clarification of how the diet must be done in stages. This is presented on a website that shares information about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, but is aimed at helping children with Autism: www.pecanbread.com The stages of the diet are made more clear there. The book does contain a great list of ...

  • Great book on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet!

This book is a great resource for feeling better through diet. Often Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohn's Disease and Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome are difficult to diagnose and even more difficult to treat with traditional medical practices. This book offers a science backed diet approach to mitigating these bowel diseases and syndromes. The book is easy to understand and offers many good tasting recipes. It also provides helpful links for support groups, supplies, recipes, and foods. An easy read for an afternoon!
