      A Lifesaver

The AA "powerless" method just didn't resonate with me so I went looking for an alternative and, boy am I glad I found this book! After 40 years of alcohol abuse I am finally free, clean and sober because of this simple yet powerful method! It literally saved my life....best $8 investment I ever made! Highly recommend.

    • An Alternative view of addiction and recovery

I appreciated Trimpey's approach...it makes sense. He supplies info about the brain and the way addiction operates on somewhat "primitive" area of the brain--the area that really only concerned with appetites and pleasure. It's well-worth reading. On the other hand, the author has it out for the dominant 12-step model...almost to the point of conspiracy theory. That part gets old fast! I guess he had his point, but perhaps he could make it an addendum rather than sprinkling it throughout the book. Still, if you would like another view into addiction and recovery and can handle the author's frequent rants about the dominant program then go for it!

    • Fantastic insight into the mind of the substance abuser ... and help to learn how to think correctly,

I first found the book Rational Recovery over 10 years ago and it totally revolutionized my outlook on substance abuse. I am so glad to have found another copy. I highly recommend it.

    • Rational Revocery

The book provides an eloquent alternative to the idea that drug and alcohol abuse is a symptom of a disease. It also tells readers how they can help themselves, without support groups or counselors, to become completely abstinent right now. I work in the chemical dependency field, and have long disagreed with the disease model and the need for support groups. He takes my long-held, but rather abstract beliefs and spells them out in concise, straightforward terms. The book must be disseminated widely so others with thoughts like mine can see there is in fact, another way. It's an empowering way for people to help themselves.

    • Exposing the truth

This man has a great insight into the world of addiction. I wish more people could the truth as he has presented it in this book. Thank you!
