Two words: Jemaine Clement. Nuff said?

When I first saw this film years ago, I hated it. I mean really hated it. But then, a few months later, I saw a weird little scene on YouTube that is sort of a companion piece to the film, with just Jemaine, and it was so unabashedly awesome that I gave "GB" another chance. Now I show it everyone who I can make sit down in front of my TV watch it. And guess what? The vast majority of them love it! Director Jared hess ("Napoleon Dynamite," "Nacho Libre") is admittedly an acquired taste, but I think I'm finally getting acclimated to his sense of humor. And of course, it also has Sam Rockwell in it as a THE freakiest tranny spaceman. Good times.

  • Gentlemen Broncos. If you liked Napoleon Dynamite . . .

From the first preview of this movie (and the fact that it comes from the guys who created Napoleon Dynamite), I knew this was up my "qwerky comedy" alley. Definitely not for those who didn't like/get Napoleon Dynamite, or Monty Python movies in the past. This is a new type of comedy made popular by the aformentioned. It, like it's predecessors is like watching life through the eyes of a very underexposed teenager who's home schooled or rides the short bus. With that said, the simple, yet very book/geek smart approach to how the story unfolds will make anyone who pays attention to subtly & nuance shed tears of laughter. The 5th scene (from the scene select menu may be one of the funniest scenes in comedy history!) Warm-hearted, imaginative, and oddball-funny. May never be available for ...

  • Novelty fun at the expense of plot

As a fan of Napoleon Dynamite and having enjoyed Nacho Libre, I was intrigued to watch this movie. This definitely captures the awkwardness of Napoleon dynamite while lovingly poking fun at Science Fiction and homeschoolers. As I was Homeschooled and love sci-fi, this movie really had me in stitches. I never was the people in the movie, but I sure have met them. About halfway through the movie, the novelty of lame homeschoolers, bad sci-fi effects and story (intercut as they read the main character's story - think Star Trek TOS bad), wore off and the movie scrambles to resolve whatever plot points there are. In the end it is a massively entertaining film just for the laughs and strangeness of it all. But gets a little old by the end. Still a fun fun watch (obviously I bought it to show ...

  • An acquired taste, but I like it!

Like it enough to buy it! If your were into Napolean, very similar in the way characters operate, editing, cheesiness. Napolean was probably better, but for some reason, I have watched this movie over and over as well. Give it a shot, if you don't like it, blame me :) You probably already know if you would like it, so trust your gut!

  • Oh, no wonder..straight to dvd..

You know, I love Sam Rockwell, and also Jemaine Clement..and I was so looking forward to "Gentlemen Broncos"..but this movie-oy. Just kinda awful. Too long, pretentious, dull and lacking in humor, among other vital things. The script is muddied and hard to follow, and the editing seems off, too.. Really disliked it, as did the people with whom I watched it. Argggh! I still love Sam Rockwell-did everyone see "Moon"? See it, if you haven't. Or see "Helvetica", or "Keep the River to Your Right: a Modern Cannibal Tale"-those are brilliant. And I still love Jemaine, too, of course..always.. But this movie? Don't bother-or, if you're determined, get it from your local library. I'm sure you won't have a long wait. Why can't they make good movies anymore? Someone tell me!
