Product Information

The critically acclaimed chess series comes to PlayStation 2 with online play and an assortment of customization options. Not only will participants be able to choose different 3D or 2D pieces and a variety of perspectives from which to view the game, but also play using a fantasy theme that will have orcs, knights, and monsters battling out each move in animated sequences akin to Interplay's Battle Chess. Five game modes include Quick Game, Rated Play, Handicap, Setup Position, and Puzzle. As with past versions, Chessmaster for PlayStation 2 is designed to teach users about the game and its myriad of strategies, instead of merely providing an outlet for play. <br><br>International Master Josh Waitzkin offers advice and tips on improving a player's game, while computer opponents actually change their play styles over time based on their overall success. Tournaments and happenings within the Chessmaster world are depicted as news clippings to keep players informed of upcoming events and current rankings. A comprehensive database of famous chess matches played throughout history is also available, and once players become adept at the game, they can compete on the Grandmaster level. Of course, competition against human players is also supported, on the same screen for single-system matches or online via the PS2 Network Adaptor.

    Chessmaster for PS2

    I love the fact that you can input your own name and make your own character. You couldn't do that with Chessmaster II for ps1. It has great graphics and is a GREAT tutorial all in itself. The only reason I wouldn't grade it as excellent is because it has one and only one music track (at least as far as I can tell). I can't understand why they would have put only one music track in it. Overall great!!

    Best video chess game ever!

    This game is the best video chess game I have ever played. I have owned many video chess games and this one has everything I need in a video game. It lets you access thousands of games that were played by the best players. It teaches you how to become a better player. It gives you challenges like mate in 1 or mate in 2 and what would be the best next move and guess what the grandmasters next move was.

    this game can be a challenge!!even for experinced players-great investment

    this chess instructional game while being a little on the outdated side is an excellent teacher and opponent. Remember to start out on the easier levels first unless you enjoy being defeated. Graphics are good although it does take its time in responding to moves(could be a little quicker in this department) great investment for ps2.
