Newcomer AnnaSophia Robb is adorable as India Opal Buloni in Wayne Wang's heartwarming family comedy BECAUSE OF WINN-DIXIE, based on the bestselling novel by Kate DiCamillo. A smart, resourceful young girl, Opal thinks "people forgot how to share the joy." She's tired of moving from small town to small town with her father (Jeff Daniels), a preacher at the Open Arms Baptist Church; she just wants to find a home and stop being lonely. One night she wishes for a best friend, and that companion arrives in the form of a magical, trouble-causing dog she comes upon in a Winn-Dixie supermarket. She names the dog Winn-Dixie, and they become inseparable, making friends with many of the town's most unusual, quirky characters, including gruff and scruffy Otis (singer-songwriter Dave Matthews), who carries around his guitar and works at the rather unique Gertrude's Pet Shop. Academy Award winners Eva Marie Saint (as Miss Franny the librarian) and Cicely Tyson (as the mysteriously daffy but charming Gloria Dump) provide excellent support as well. Among the musicians on the infectious pop soundtrack are Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin, the Beu Sisters, the Finn Brothers, and Leigh Nash, whose "I've Gotta See You Smile" will make audiences do just that. With BECAUSE OF WINN-DIXIE, Hong Kong-born Wang continues his successful transition to English-language family films following such acclaimed early Chinese works as CHAN IS MISSING, DIM SUM, and EAT A BOWL OF TEA.

      Great heartwarming family movie!

      This is a wonderful family movie that has a great plot, while teaching kids about love for animals, how to get along with others, about how absence of a parent can affect a child's perspective on things, and how a person can use the difficult things they encounter to reach out to others. I loved India Opal's cheerful outlook on life and how she tried to deal with things in an optimistic manner and always to be kind to others - even those most people were afraid of or though weird. This movie will warm your heart and leave you with a desire to make the world a better place by reaching out to others.

      Great movie!

      My granddaughter brought this movie over to watch with me. I fell in love with it and decided to get my own copy for home. This is a very heartwarming story about how a lonely little girl, Opal, and an adorable mutt find each other. Named Winn Dixie because of being found at the grocery store with that name, Winn Dixie leads Opal to other lonely people that are also wanting friendship and at the end brings them all together. Just love the story line and the acting in this movie.

      THIS IS A CUTE FILM BUT IT IS EXACTALLY WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT! A FILM ABOUT AN ODD LITTLE GIRL WHO MEETS A SMILING DOG IN WINN-DIXIE AND TAKES IT HOME AND OF COURSE THE DOG WILL CHANGE HER LIFE. IT IS A SWEET FILM BUT IT DOES LINGER ON FOR A WHILE AND OF COURSE ITS SAD. IT IS JUST LIKE MY DOG SKIP EXCEPT MY DOG SKIP WAS ALOT BETTER IN MY OPINION! THE LITTLE GIRL IN THE FILM MEETS ALOT OF NEW FOLKS AND LEARNS DIFFERENT THINGS ABOUT ALL THESE CHARACTERS WHILE ALSO TRYING TO LEARN ABOUT HER OWN MOTHER WHO APPARENTLY LEFT HER AND HER PREACHER DAD WHEN SHE WAS A BABY, AND FOR SOME STRANGE REASON THE PREACHER DOES NOT WANT TO DISCUSS HER MOM WITH HER AT ALL!
