  • Good western story

It was an easy and interesting read with likable and believable characters. Being a TX resident and knowing a bit about the geography added to my interest.

  • Dead Man's Walk

How can you not like Larry McMurtry's trilogy of stories involving Gus and Call? The books, written out of sequence ("Lonesome Dove" was written first, followed by "Streets of Laredo," the story Call in his latter years)are a rare glimpse of the violence of the Texas frontier, as a novel, that has the true ring of credibility. In essence, I consider "Streets of Laredo" and ""Dead Man's Walk" as something akin to bookends to the mammonth Lonesome Dove, but, indeed, much needed bookends, for they provide the beginning and end of the saga. But we meet Buffalo Hump, the ferocious Comanche Indian chief, Kicking Wolf, a supurb horse thief. • Love Gus & Call......this is a Must Read!!!!

Another example of Larry McMurtry's excellent ability to capture the character and feel of Texas during those years. I have read all his "Gus & Call" adventures beginning with "Lonesome Dove" and have never enjoyed any reading more. I constantly found myself laughing out loud one second then biting my nails then next as extraordinary scenarious played out on the pages of this wonderful book. I am glad I read this one last as it really explains why Gus and Call turned out the way they did. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves these characters.......or not. Enjoy!
