About this product

Product Information

Filled with "kickass adventure and supernatural fireworks," Jim Butcher's Dresden Files novels have been compared to Harry Potter with "an adult tone and attitude" (News-Star, Monroe, LA). Now, Harry Dresden must save Chicago from black magic and necromancy--all in a day's work for the city's only professional wizard.

Praise for the Dresden Files "Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer starring Philip Marlowe."-- Entertainment Weekly "Fans of Laurell  K. The supporting cast is again fantastic, and Harry's wit continues to fly in the face of a peril-fraught plot."-- Booklist (starred review)   "What's not to like about this series'...It takes the best elements of urban fantasy, mixes it with some good old-fashioned noir mystery, tosses in a dash of romance and a lot of high-octane action, shakes, stirs, and serves."-- SF Site   "A tricky plot complete with against-the-clock pacing, firefights, explosions, and plenty of magic. Longtime series fans as well as newcomers drawn by the SciFi Channel's TV series based on the novels should find this supernatural mystery a real winner."-- Library Journal   "What would you get if you crossed Spenser with Merlin? • A great read for somebody who enjoys magic and murder mystery.

This is another great Dresden File book from the Jim Butcher series. I have thoroughly enjoyed each one I have read. It is a great read with lots of twist and turns and a great cast of good guys and bad guys too. I did not want to put it down until I read the last page. I love a great murder mystery and this also has the magic element to make it a super blend. I highly recommend this book.

  • Quick and quality

Jim Butcher's Dresden always delivers action and humor. I'm up to book 7 in the series and have every intention of continuing. What I love about his books is that they're not a constant rehash of vampires and werewolves (although said entities do appear). This series strikes me as Kim Harrison's Hollows series for men, more focus on the action and danger than the romances. Although Harrison's novels have plenty of action, her heroine is a bit ruled by her emotions. Dresden is not. He goal is to serve mankind, not himself.

  • Excellent mystery/thriller!

Jim Butcher draws you in to the mysterious and quite often very dangerous world of Harry Dresden - the only practicing wizard in Chicago who is listed in the yellow pages. The writing style is very compelling, filled with dark humor, out and out horror and surprising twists and turns. All centered around magic, good and evil and the gray area in between. This guy takes serious beatings and still goes on to fight the good fight. Now that's a HERO.
