    If you have any interest at all in the clay pottery produced over 1400 years in the pueblos of the Southwestern United States, this book belongs in your library. First, what it is not. It is not a big, hard-cover, coffee table book with loads of full-color pictures and only incidental text. Rather, authors Alfred E. Dittert, Jr. and Fred Plog have given the reader a diverting, well-researched, and well-documented survey of the history, methodologies, and the cultural and spiritual-religious import of pottery in the several pueblo societies. It's an easy read, written for the lay person, and the authors provide a handy glossary for the few technical terms that are unavoidable. There ARE some color plates, and they are quite wonderful; there are also numerous black and white plates, ...
