About this product

Product Information

Shel Silverstein, the New York Times bestselling author of The Giving Tree , A Light in the Attic , Falling Up , and Every Thing On It, has created a poetry collection that is outrageously funny and deeply profound. Come in . . . for where the sidewalk ends, Shel Silverstein's world begins. You'll meet a boy who turns into a TV set, and a girl who eats a whale. The Unicorn and the Bloath live there, and so does Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout who will not take the garbage out. It is a place where you wash your shadow and plant diamond gardens, a place where shoes fly, sisters are auctioned off, and crocodiles go to the dentist. Shel Silverstein's masterful collection of poems and drawings stretches the bounds of imagination and will be cherished by readers of all ages. This is a collection that belongs on everyone's bookshelf. Makes a great gift for special occasions such as holidays, birthdays, and graduation. And don't miss Runny Babbit Returns , the new book by Shel Silverstein

    Great Children's book!

I bought this book for my grandchildren to replace my sons original book that I bought him 35 years ago. The stories and poems are short and funny to keep elementary school age children's attention. I began by reading the stories to my 6 year old son, he loved them so much, by the end of the school year he was reading them to me. My son was thrilled I found the book for his children so we can continue the tradition.

  • something old into something new

As a child, going to the library at school was a competition. We would race down the hallway despite the screams of our teachers, to be the first one in the door. Then, we would run to the Shel Silverstein books. WHo would be the first to get it, who had not returned it from our last visit...and so on. As a child, his poetry was so funny and easy to remember. Now as an adult, I was walking with my friend and noticed that in her neighborhood, the sidewalks often ended. Recently I moved away from her and bought this fun book for her to remember our good times. Running through it, I was delighted to read those old poems again. They have changed as I have, and their meanings hold virtues and loyalty. I love this author and highly recommend any readings of his, for the young and old.

  • Interesting

I bought it as a Christmas gift for my daughter, she remembered reading it in school and loved it. She has been looking for it at garage, estate and book sales so she could show it to a friend of hers who never read it. I am looking forward to her opening it on Christmas Day.
