A battery does not generate its own heat as it needs a "load" and uses the phone as a load. The phone is what would get hot and that would make the battery hot.The battery is not the heat source.Your old battery would of been doing the same thing but was most likely not having enough charge as was old and already degraded as clearly there was a fault with the phone before.Always monitor your battery temperature and never let it get hot as heat will also reduce the lifespane of a new battery.
