Synopsis
"An extraordinary real picture of human beings numbed by catastrophe but still driven by the unconquerable determination of living creatures to keep on being alive." --The New Yorker The classic apocalyptic novel by Pat Frank, first published in 1959 at the height of the Cold War, with an introduction by award-winning science fiction writer and scientist David Brin. "Alas, Babylon." Those fateful words heralded the end. When the unthinkable nightmare of nuclear holocaust ravaged the United States, it was instant death for tens of millions of people; for survivors, it was a nightmare of hunger, sickness, and brutality. Overnight, a thousand years of civilization were stripped away. But for one small Florida town, miraculously spared against all the odds, the struggle was only just beginning, as the isolated survivors--men and women of all ages and races--found the courage to come together and confront the harrowing darkness., "An extraordinary real picture of human beings numbed by catastrophe but still driven by the unconquerable determination of living creatures to keep on being alive." -- The New Yorker The classic apocalyptic novel by Pat Frank, first published in 1959 at the height of the Cold War, with an introduction by award-winning science fiction writer and scientist David Brin. A powerful post-apocalyptic tale!

“Alas Babylon” is a gripping story of survival of war in the nuclear age. The story focuses on a small group of people in Florida that face the challenges of how to survive after a nuclear holocaust. While the story centers on the group’s ability to adapt and overcome the challenges of living in this new and very different world, it also tells about the survival of humanity, community, charity and most of all, hope. The story also serves as a warning of how situations can escalate catastrophically during times of great international tension! Any small misstep can result in irreversible consequences. As this story takes place in 1959-1960 time period it would helpful if the reader has knowledge of that time period. “Alas Babylon” by Pat Frank is a great read and I highly recommend it.

Although written in the 50s, this timeless post-apocalyptic classic is still spell binding. I'm glad to have a new copy of this much read book with larger print this time around.

    • Corners Were Bent

Looks brand new but seems slightly damaged in shipping. I would appreciate it if the shipper would use some type of packing paper or put it in a box to protect it. The corners were bent a little.
