Universal insurance, high tech business management of the most expensive, low quality medical care system in the world may be an equitable way to pay America's $2 trillion medical bill. It may deliver the greatest possible good for all Americans by providing prepayments for their medical services. On the other hand it does not address the cause of the problem, a politically established medical monopoly which increased prices faster than the cost of living for more than 100 years.... This book provides a brief history of medical services in America and reveals how the American Medical Association became the Physician's Union, allied itself with the drug industry and established the powerful, undercover influence which has suppressed competition from promising advances in medical science for a century. Its political influence prevents Congressional investigation of its misdeeds. In 1787 Dr. Benjamin Rush foresaw this development and proposed that the right to freedom of choice in medical care be protected by the Constitution. The need for Constitutional protection was not evident in 1787, but it is now. America's medical problems can be solved by a Benjamin Rush Amendment to the Constitution, initiated by individual states, to Insure the natural right of Freedom of Choice in Medical Care for both providers and patients.
