I read Pigs In Heaven prior to this with the former being the first in the sagas of Taylor and Turtle Greer. So enjoyable, both The Bean Trees AND Pigs In Heaven are on my "love these books" list. The Poisonwood Bible I read when it first came out and until recently hadn't read any other Kingsolver novels but these two make your heart and soul fill with tenderness for the characters. I adore the way this author "talks" - her characters becoming so real. Thanks for the opportunity to voice my opinion - I hope you choose to read at least THE BEAN TREES - once you do you'll look for PIGS IN HEAVEN as quickly as you can! ENJOY!
I read this book every couple of years or so. First off, Ms. Kingsolver is a constant favorite of mine. I love the way she crafts her words so you don't want to put the book down. But this book is a must read for anyone who has never experienced the Kingsolver world. I was living in Tucson when I first read this book and that made me warm to it up front. Then, as I read, I loved the woman, the child and the story. Go with her as she adopts an abandoned American Native child in the middle of the southwest and starts her life with that child who does not speak. Stay with her through the next story as well. You will not be sorry. I bought this copy to give it away to a friend.
My daughter senior class was reading it. I wanted her to graduate so I bought it to read with her. It was an easy read my story

Her sense of humor is one I get. I enjoy a book that is entertaining which this one was. All about being an adult

I read "Pigs In Heaven" first and loved it! When I found out it was a sequel I had to read "The Bean Trees" and was not disappointed. I hated for their story to end!

It is hard to grasp the story for the first 5 chapters. Then it goes from good to better. I am glad I read it and did enjoy it at the end. It is a good story. Would make a good movie.
