I usually like Dean Koontz books but this particular book had way too much going on. He seemed to be writing three books at once and the character banter was so fake. I give good authors credit for being above average observers of human nature and actions. The actions of Hillary were the opposite of what any rational human being would have done. He tried to make her reactions to an attacker a learned response to a violent past but he focused more on Franks past before he killed him off. I felt like I was reading multiple books at the same time and I truly didn't care what happened to any of the characters. Not my favorite Dean Koontz work....
Dean R. Koontz never ceases to amaze me...what an imagination! "Whispers" is a psychological tale of terror involving a young woman named Hilary Thomas. Hilary has it all-beauty, brains, talent, courage, success...and a deadly stalker who tries to kill her. She manages to kill the man with a kitchen knife during a home invasion and attempted rape/murder, but is soon attacked again (and nearly finished) by the same man...or was it? Hilary meets and falls in love with Los Angeles detective Tony Clemenza, and together they try to piece together the terrifying puzzle-can the dead return from the grave? A riveting tale of suspense, murder, and madness, "Whispers" will leave you reluctant to turn the lights off... 5***** out of 5*****
I read this book in 1987 and before I knew it, I had every light in the house turned on. It terrified me but I so desperately want to read it again. My light bill will be huge...can't help myself. Great horror story.
This was the very 1st book I read by Dean Koontz and was fascinated by it, do not remember if a movie was made. When we moved, I traded most of his paperback books for a few dvd's and was sorry I gave this book up and kept most of his hard cover books. Looked everywhere for it and finally found it on Ebay, this time I am keeping it.
