I used this printers for about 2 years when I got my computer. I used it to printout business papers, receipts, and many other documents. It worked great and still runs as I have connected to my childs computer since I upgraded to an All-in-One Lexmark Printer. It has decent printout and does print out good pictures although it is not a picture printer. Another benefit as with most Lexmark printers, it comes with black and color ink. The ink is somewhat expensive when you run out but its worth it. Get this printer if you are looking for something basic or you are a student user in need of space and quality printing.
I bought this Lexmark Z23 to replace one that finally died after 9 years of pretty much daily use, having printed about 15,000 pages. What a great printer! Other pluses: You can refill the ink tanks yourself. It works with our old computers -- Windows 98 First Edition and Windows 2000. (I don't know if there are drivers for XP or above.) One annoyance: It pulls the paper through by grabbing it on the right-hand side. If you're loading just one or two sheets, you can avoid a paper jam or crooked printing by setting the paper at a slight angle, bottom left a little lower. With a thicker stack of paper, it doesn't seem to need any compensating.
I received the Lexmark Z23 in a package deal when I bought my computer. The printer prints nice pictures, even photos. I have had the printer for 5 years and the only problem I have ever had is that recently it has a hard time pulling paper in, especially if it is thick paper. I would definately buy another one though because it does what it needs to do at an inexpensive price.
It cost more than the original cost to get it working properrly. I had some software driver difficulties, but found a usable one directly from the manufacturer's website. It presently works very well. I like its simplicity of operation as well as the quality output.
I buy them because they are the most economical ink jet printers on the market in Houston, TX. My husband and I are students, have children, and have a small-home based business that grosses less than a $1000 in profit each year, however I have to purchase one of these a year due to mechanical problems that incur. The printers do have nice print-outs but can not handle curious hands of children, or long-term strain of student papers being printed-out. Luckily, the printers come with ink (color) usually and other extras such as photograph paper by Kodak.
