About this product

Product Information

Based on the novel by award-winning author Val McDermid, PLACE OF EXECUTION is a taut psychological thriller that explores, exposes and explodes the borderline between reality and illusion in a multi-layered narrative that turns expectations on their heads. Journalist Catherine Heathcote (Juliet Stevenson, Bend it like Beckham) is making a documentary about schoolgirl Alison Carter, who vanished from a remote Northumberland village in 1963, sparking a major police hunt and making a hero of investigating offi cer DI George Bennett. When George withdraws his co-operation at the last minute, Catherine is devastated and sets off for Scardale to demand an explanation, accompanied by her rebellious teenage daughter Sasha. But what she uncovers there not only turns the Alison Carter case upside down it rocks the very foundations of Catherine's own life.

  • Not as good as the book, but still a worthwhile watch

Val McDermid's book "Place of Execution" was rivetting: until I completed it and read the author's notes I thought it was an account of real events. The DVD is not quite so compelling; the changes made to accommodate the different medium do reduce the impact and engagement for the viewer. Still, it was well cast, well acted, and certainly worth watching. However, I'd recommend the book ahead of the DVD.
