    Sharp!

I have been shooting with the 28mm f/3.5 Macro for a couple weeks now. Quite happy with the lens, it is an impressive bit of optics. The images are very, very sharp, using the entire resolution of the EOS M5 to best effect. The lens is a specialized bit of kit, truly for macrophotography and maybe a bit of short range general photography. It has some odd features that seem a bit unusual at first. The ring light of course, quite useful when photographing targets a few inches in front of the lens. Not really a ring, the light is two 90 degree segments to the left and right of the lens aperture. You turn on the light with a button on the side of the lens. The lens must be extended before use by means of releasing a latch on the side of the barrel and then rotating the barrel into ...

  • Great for casual macro work.

I finally got a chance to go out and try out my new EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM last Friday. I have never used such a short focal length macro, I'm used to my 105mm so this took some getting used to. I found this lens to be very sharp and making close-up photography much easier than with a more traditional focal length. with the image stabilization, I was able to get nice macro shots handheld. I have found this lens to be an excellent walk-around lens. It very sharp and is a great focal length for general photography. I have seen lots of reviewers give this lens a bad rap for having a maximum f-stop of F3 .5 instead of 2.8. I would have to say that if you're shooting macro, you should be shooting at least 5.6 or higher to get enough depth of field for most subjects matter. This is one of ...

  • Great beginners macro lens.

I'm a food blogger, but don't have much money to spare for camera equipment. I've a canon m6 for which this is a natural carry on lens with good macro results. The LED light on the lens is a gimmick. It has very shallow depth of field as you will see in the attached photos. This lens works best on Tripod with good source of light. There is no focus stacking in canon cameras so you need to take several focus points to merge the focus in post. Overall its a good buy for beginners.

  • Great little lens

A very useful lens for the Canon M series cameras. At 28mm, it's fine for a walking around fixed lens, not too big. It can focus to macro distances, just in case you want capture that dew on a flower petal.

  • Fun little lens to play with

I like the lens. It has neat features like the built in flash, super macro, image stabilizer and twist to extend design for compact carry. Images quality is good and macro lenses are fun. It had very good used price for what you get. Macro lenses tend to be expensive, but this lens was relatively cheap. Now, my complaints about the lens. I wish the lens had metal mount like the 22mm f2 instead of plastic mount like the kit lens. Makes other wise good lens feel cheap. I also wish the lens had max aperture of at least f/2.8. f/3.5 is perfectly fine for macro since you would actually need to stop down more to get more in focus, but 28mm range is a very versatile range to be used in normal shooting but 3.5 is too slow for fixed prime lens. At that point mind as well use a zoom. F/2 (would ...
