This 3-DVD set contains the first 13 episodes of the American Street Fighter cartoon series, based on the line of video games from Capcom which hardly needs introduction. This series is NOT drawn in the anime style, so if you happen to be one of those who think that only anime is worth watching and all American cartoons are trash, then stay away from this. But if you like Street Fighter and you're able to appreciate good old Saturday morning style American animation, then you're in for a treat. Guile stars as THE Street Fighter throughout most of the series. He leads all the good guys and gals -- Chun Li, Cammy, Blanka, the wonder 'twins' Ken and Ryu, and many more -- against the arch-villain Bison and his gang, who lead a terrorist organisation. (I'm a bit unhappy that Zangief works for Bison in this series, but it's a minor point. :)) Again and again Bison comes up with one nefarious scheme after another -- releasing a deadly virus, blowing up an undersea tunnel etc -- but Guile and Co always manage to save the day in the end (though often only by a hair's breadth -- shudder). Dhalsim appears for the first time in the episode 'Dark Heart' on disc 2, perhaps one of the best episodes, where Guile and his gang must travel to ice-locked Tibet to prevent Bison from using his special powers to direct a comet into a collision course with Earth! (There's a certain poignancy about how close to real life some of these schemes of Bison's can be.) There's plenty of fighting action and nearly all the signature moves of the individual fighters are showcased. The story's not just simple good-versus-evil. Often the good characters have various personal weaknesses they need to struggle with, making the story of each episode more complex and interesting. (And you can imagine how hard it is to help them struggle with their weaknesses when you're their leader -- and when YOU have certain weaknesses yourself!) Cammy's constant flirting of Guile adds a touch of humor to the story. The image quality of the DVDs is excellent on the whole. The sound and music are clear as well. The characters themselves are quite well-drawn IMO; certainly I don't think Chun Li looks ugly at all in this series. :) Discipline! Justice! Commitment! :)Read full review
I love this show. I first viewed these episodes when they aired originally on television when I was a child. I have good memories of the show, and have seen EVERY single anime made with the Street Fighter brand attached. I loved the original animated movie, and Street Fighter II V, which showed the main characters as teenagers, as a prequel. This show; however, I believe, aired on the USA network in the 90's in America. It is not a Japanese made anime, but Americanized animation, up there with GI Joe, but much more modern. This one doesn't feature the Japanese Ryu as the main character, as it is not Japanese-made. On the contrary, it features the American, Guile. The Guile character calls in other characters to join his team for missions. (Cammy, T. Hawk, Chun-li Blanka). This show was clearly made to bolster enthusiasm for the live-action film, which also featured Guile as the main character. Bison is a drug lord with super powers in this version, Blanka and Charlie are the same characters in this version, and Vega wears a mask because his face was damaged by Blanka in this version. However, given all the changes to the Street Fighter story, I must say, I LOVED the changes made to the story. How nice and refreshing to have all the character I loved as a child in a totally new, unexpected light.Read full review

Great DVDs! Classics with Guile as main character. Older than Street Fighter II V with a different story line, sort of like the real-life movie with Van Damme.
