The DA series was at the top of Sony receivers when they came out. The STR DA333ES was the least expensive, or entry level model of this line. This versatile receiver is a good choice for someone who needs more audio source inputs than most new receivers offer. It has inputs for a tape deck, a mini disc (or DAT), a CD player, and a turntable. The video section has several inputs as well, including s-video inputs and outputs, for TV/Sat, a DVD player, and three other video sources. It also has digital optical input capability. This is a pre HD receiver, so if you're looking for HDMI inputs, you'd be better off buying a newer model. However, if you're content with analog or s-video quality, or if you're only controlling audio with the receiver, then this will do the job beautifully. The main selling point for me was the PRE AMP OUT section, which I use to send signals to my WIRELESS surround sound rear speakers, as well as sending the front speaker signals to another set of wireless speakers in a different room. The 400 watt power amp (80 watts per channel) is more than sufficient to provide a clean, powerful 5.1 surround sound experience. The remote is clunky and complicated, and not the most intuitive I've ever used, and it's delayed response is annoying, but the most often used functions can be easily controlled with a universal remote, so it's not really a problem. Although I haven't had a problem with this, in my research I've heard that they sometimes run hot, so keep them in a well ventilated space. I can personally attest that they don't travel well, so shipping can cause problems, as is the case with any electronics. Bottom line: I would highly recommend the Sony STR-DA333ES if you're comfortable with high end audio equipment, and can find one in good shape.Read full review
it was about time i'd get a new receiver being that mine was 30 years old and finally went. it was a sansui g7500. I decided to get into the 21st century and buy a sony receiver although the remote is very annoying, that can be solved by buying a very basic nice universal remote overall amazing product with awsome settings and amazing power
We were replacing an older receiver with this one. Same model and everything. The old one gave out and the wiring was all ready for a new one of the same model. It works great and we love it. Lots of room to hook up surround sound. Has the connectors for wires and no HDMI cable.
receiver ran for app 5hrs. has been in the shop for almost 7 weeks. it comes on but no sound. go luck finding parts for it.

Accurate sound. The only problem is that the equalizer has only 3 bands.
