The Jeppesen set of books continue to deliver, lesson after lesson and year after year.
This book is huge, much larger than the Private Pilot one, but combines both the Instrument (3/4th) and Commercial (1/4th) aspects under one cover. This is full of color illustrates, easy to read captions, highlighted portions and of course the all important summary pages.
You will not be able to read this in one sitting, and will even come back to it as a reference later on in your career. Yes, these are that well written.
The only draw back is that there is no hard cover version available anymore. For such a large book, cramming it into your flight bag or backpack carelessly will ensure a bent if not ripped cover. Also, it's heavy. A two-volume set may make sense, but when you're spending $75, it's a good feeling to receive something so substantial.
For those who are getting started ... understand that Instrument flying is precision flying. Knowing to trust your instruments, not performing CFIT and avoiding VMC when you're not rated will help keep you and your passengers alive. An instrument rating is the next step, and picking up this book is the first.
Safe flights!
