    Truly great soldering iron

    The Metcal and Thermotronics soldering irons are wonderful devices. You can solder or unsolder a joint in under a second. No temperature adjustments (temperature is set by the tip selected), just turn it on and it works. It blows old adjustable-temperature heating element soldering irons away. Whether your soldering an 0402 resistor or 18 gauge wire, it always gives you the right amount of heat to do the job. This refurbished unit works great and comes with a brand new pencil, holder, and four tips to cover needs from big to tiny.

    Metcal MX-500P Kicks Ass

    This is the power & solder station from Metcal. Been around for 5+ years i suppose. Used one at work and got spoiled so i had to buy one for home. Got one used, and no worries. Awesome. has 2 output jacks, you must switch between one or the other is my only issue, but i think they designed it this way so that it monitors the tip one at a time. Uses a high frequency voltage to drive the tips. No matter what tip you use be it a 500 or an 800 degree, it will be up and ready to go in about 5 seconds. It also maintains the heat for whatever your solder a small wire or a large bunch(within reason) it will keep it going. and my favorite feature is the Auto standby, after a few minuets if you dont use it, the LED goes orange indication of power standby mode and tip cools down completely.     Rock solid and easiest iron I've used

    It's a well built unit and super easy to use. After soldering for a good 40 years of my life as a hobby and professionally, I can say that this iron is one of the best. It heats incredibly fast and maintains tip temperature on even the most difficult to solder joints. The tips are super easy to replace and don't overheat or oxidize easily. The tip selection can be a bit confusing but if you download Metcal's tip guide it becomes very simple.

    Top Solder Iron Solution

    Probably the best solder iron system on the market. It heats the tip quickly and a myriad of tips are available for different applications. While one of the most expensive soldering irons in the market, it is worth the cost for what it does.

    One of the best soldering stations

    The Metcal MX-500 is an excellent product, much better than the usual Chinese soldering stations. It reaches temperature in 5-8 seconds and holds it even when used against big thermal mass components/boards. Be aware though that the tips are very expensive, around USD25-45 for the most common types.
