Synopsis
The first explosive thriller featuring Peter Ash, a veteran who finds that the demons of war aren't easily left behind... "Lots of characters get compared to my own Jack Reacher, but Petrie's Peter Ash is the real deal."--Lee Child Peter Ash came home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with only one souvenir: what he calls his "white static," the buzzing claustrophobia due to post-traumatic stress that has driven him to spend a year roaming in nature, sleeping under the stars. But when a friend from the Marines commits suicide, Ash returns to civilization to help the man's widow with some home repairs. Under her dilapidated porch, he finds more than he bargained for: the largest, ugliest, meanest dog he's ever encountered...and a Samsonite suitcase stuffed with cash and explosives. As Ash begins to investigate this unexpected discovery, he finds himself at the center of a plot that is far larger than he could have imagined...and it may lead straight back to the world he thought he'd left for good.

    read this first

While not necessary to read his books in order, it does help. This is the first, but I read it after his second book. Then I read the third which is the magic number for authors to maintain inspiration. Will I read a fourth? Maybe, maybe not.

  • Top critical review

Read it all the way through, but there are better authors, in my opinion.

Way too much use of the "F" word for me and "need to be outside unless he needed to be inside".

  • Love this author

I ran across the 3rd book by this author and decided to pick up the first 2 books and I was not disappointed. The action is fast and I believe that I found another author to read. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

  • Jimmy's Secrets

Very readable book. Lt. Peter Ash is the main character who is dealing with PTSD. He calls it white static and if he is inside it gets worse with time. He stays outside and it stays under control. He hears that his best friend Jimmy has committed suicide. He goes to see his wife and family. He sees how deteriorated her house is and decides to help repair it. The porch is sagging and needs supports replaced. Charlie, Jimmy's son, tells him about a very mean dog that is living under it and his little brother is afraid to come outside. The dog has terrorized the neighborhood animals. Peter knows he has to tame the dog before he can work on the porch. He gets the dog under partial control and finds a cache of money hidden away under the porch. Also some explosives. Diana, Jimmy's ...

  • A must read for all Americans.

I've read the book from the library. I ordered this one for my son who is an 18-year veteran and former Naval Officer. The book gives much insight into the problems that veterans face after deployment.
